Movie Reward shopping

I hoard my Disney Movie Reward points but I am not after those big ticket items. I am after the smaller items that I can use for myself and as gifts.

Today I splurged and actually redeem 2 rewards.

Do you save your Disney Movie Rewards?

My coupon organizer

I bought a nice coupon organizer that is easy to carry and works beautifully for me during my shopping trips. The only problem is it was plain. It had what I needed so I didn't want to just wait for the perfect one. My solution? Visit the scrapbooking aisle at Michaels.

I have seen these emroidered stickers forever at Michaels but could never justify buying them. I know I know how can I not justify anything with Disney but it is true. I didn't want to buy them only to find them buried in my craft drawer and never use them anyways.

So today was the day to make a quick stop at Michaels on the way home from my Disney store visit. Brought them home and immediately placed them on my coupon organizer. Guess what? They are perfect! I am going to permanently attach them using E6000 adhesive found at craft stores or even Walmart. A 5 minute craft project that anyone can do and voila the perfect coupon organizer that fits me perfectly and I didn't even break a sweat!

Now I have a coupon organizer that nobody else around me has. It also serves as a reminder of why I wish to coupon. That extra savings goes right to my savings account for those future Disney trips!

Disney Trays and Plates

Lunch is a relaxed time to eat and the kids love their Disney trays. These were intended for arts and crafts but we use them for meals. This was found at Walgreens on clearance but Toys R Us had some that were larger in Disney prints. No matter your use I am sure the kids will love these! and it makes clean up easy too! Take these to the sink and wash off easily.

Having a Mickey plate (this one was purchased at the Disney store but I have also seen some at Walmart and Target) makes eating fun too. Fill each space with a different food (he loves his green beans so we just put veggies in the ears). I have also found plain ones at the craft stores that you can paint and decorate any way you wish. If they had a mom size version I would so have one of these!

BTW the picture is my handsome nephew, Chase, eating his lunch on a hot summer afternoon before going swimming.

Mickey Trophy

My husband is a Navy veteran receiving medical care at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. During his most recent visit he noticed a change in the display case. We are there often enough so any change we will notice.

This Mickey Trophy was awarded to the NMVAHCS by the VISN 18 Network Director because we sent 2,040 employees to Disney training. This is the first step in our Veteran Centered Care journey.

I didn't think to ask him to take a picture of the engraving on the trophy itself but I just thought how cool is that at a place we visit so often from another place we visit so often.

A Penny for your Thoughts

One of the fun things about visiting the Disneyland Resort (or any of the Disney theme parks) is looking for pressed coin designs. I like the pennies for the look of the copper. Throughout the resort you will find pressed penny machines (and other denominations as well) with a variety of designs and characters.

If you decide to begin collecting these I do recommend a pressed coin album for your chosen denomination. Keeps them safe and ready to enjoy. You also can carry these each trip to quickly look over the current coins you have so you do not duplicate them. Albums are very reasonable at approximately $6 and up. Find an album you like to keep these little treasures safe for years to come.

Now I am a Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse fanatic so I am always after special designs. One of my favorite pennies is of Walt Disney's signature that I found at the exit for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Other favorites of mine include designs that feature the old Disneyland sign.

Pressed pennies are only $0.51 (2 quarters and 1 penny). Well before my trip I begin collecting pennies and quarters. Two quarters per one penny is how they are counted and I only put them in the baggie when I have completed sets. I put a little baggie in my dresser drawer to begin my stash. When it is time to pack I grab my baggie and place in my suitcase. No hassle and easily transferred to the backpack I carry around the park.

Do you collect these? What are your favorites?

Mickey Mouse Club

I am too young to have watched the original Mickey Mouse Club but I loved the reruns. I miss watching the original cast and wishing I could be part of such a club. As I was reminiscing I decided to search for the original opening to share. I did indeed find it and boy did that bring back memories.

Along with my reminiscing a great hair clippie was shared me with that followed with todays theme.

This Mickey Mouse Club member was created by Bella Claire Bowtique. You can find this and more Disney inspired ribbon sculpture clippies on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/BellaClaireBowtique

Snow Globes

I can remember that special snow globe I got every Christmas. The plastic dome and that bubble you could never get rid of but the enchantment as you dreamed of a place that could be as magical as that you seen inside that globe.

My snow globes have changed over the years and have a new magical meaning. Every globe I currently own is Disney. Disney has always been the most magical place I could ever think of and anything was possible. I have collected globes small and large.

Here are some of my favorites in the house

I plan to add to my collection this year with these globes

70th Anniversary Fantasia Snowglobe found at my local Disney store and online

Costume Chest Mickey Mouse Snowglobe. I searched for this one at the Disneyland resort this last trip but was unable to find one :( I will continue to look and I will have one!

I am sure to add more than these but I fell in love and must have these. Mickey Mouse was my reminder of success. Mickey Mouse was my reason for going to college and receiving my degree. Mickey Mouse is why I still dream big and beyond all that seems possible.

Bella Claire Bowtique

I recently came across a new bow creator, Bella Claire Bowtique, this week and her Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs clippies caught my eye. These are some of the cutest things I have ever seen! They are small but they are incredible! Just look at these!

The detail is wonderful. And just think this was all done with ribbon!

You can order a set by visiting Bella Claire Bowtique on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/BellaClaireBowtique. This particular set is only $18.

Her creativity is outstanding and I just had to share these. She has several other Disney inspired clippies that you should also check out.

Collector Packs

I love these little collector packs. You never know what you are going to get!

There are 10 different series I believe. In each pack you get 3 miniature collectible figurines. I personally am only interested in having the mickeys but there are several out there who want them all. Now don't get me wrong. I do enjoy collecting the other pieces but I am only looking for specific ones that mean something special to me.

I took a quick look through google and found many groups out there for trading.

This last trip I wanted the steamboat willie and the sorcerers apprentice. I stood there a fool going through the packs trying to figure out which ones were in the packs. I was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for!

You can only find these at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World. Pick up a pack on your next visit.

Happily ever after

As a young girl I dreamed of marrying my prince charming as Cinderella did. Watching Princess Diana in such a beautiful wedding when I was only 7 yrs old made me believe in such special occasions. I did not have delusions of marrying a true prince but I knew a special man out there would make me feel special on my wedding day. I dreamed of a wonderful dress that would make me feel like a princess. On my wedding day I wore such a special dress to marry such a man.

Today we celebrate another princess wedding with the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate. We share again the wonderful dream of finding prince charming and saying those priceless vows in such a princess ceremony.

This is a special occasion because you do not witness such royal weddings often. This is not like any other wedding we will ever see. I will be watching as many others will even in the early morning hours when most are sleeping.

I am excited to see the dress as the dress is my favorite part. To me the dress is the most personal and intimate choice of every wedding. This is the attire your future husband will remember seeing you in for the very first time as you begin your walk down the aisle. This is the dress you chose especially for him to see you in and remember for all the days of your life. This is the dress you hope your own daughter will one day wear and cherish as much as you did. This is the dress you will see in the closet and remember such a special day in your life.

I am excited to see their faces as they become husband and wife and see how happy they are on their special day. I am excited to see them look at one another with such love and devotion. I am excited to see them take in that very moment as a lifetime memory that cannot be erased.

I still believe in finding and marrying prince charming as Cinderella taught us. I believe in celebrating such special occasions that will mark their day in history.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, Baron Carrickfergus and Princess William of Wales, Duchess of Cambridge, I wish you a life long, happy and loving marriage.

Lockers

Having a locker is so nice. No carrying around jackets, snacks, extra drinks. If you have children no need to carry extra clothing or full diaper bags. You can even stash those souvenirs if you like.

Disneyland  Resort lockers are all day, unlimited use lockers. This means you can enter them as many times as you need through the day.

They are simple to use. You find your rental kisosk which looks like an ATM machine inside of the locker location of your choice. Select the locker size of your choice (the smallest held a standard backpack filled to capacity) and also help our leftover take out containers from Blue Bayou. You can either pay in cash or by debit or credit card. You will choose a password to use for the day to enter the locker any time you wish. Being we travel with at least one teenager, we create a password everyone can remember so there is no need to meet up just to get into the locker.

Lockers around the resort:

  • Disneyland Park on Main Street, U.S.A.
  • Disney California Adventure Park in Sunshine Plaza
  • In the Esplanade between the parks, accessible from the Downtown Disney District, lockers are located outside the Main Entrances to Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure Park.
I was never much for lockers until I no longer was pushing a stroller. With a stroller you always having somewhere to store anything you have. Even with a stroller it can at times be stuffed with items you don't need with you the entire day. I will use the lockers far more often from now on.

City Pass

This trip to Disneyland we decided to try the Southern California City Pass. The City Pass includes 3-day hopper to the Disneyland Resort, 1-day Universal Studios, 1-day Seaworld, and your choice of 1-day San Diego Zoo or San Diego Safari Park (aka Wild Animal Park). This is a fantastic value.

You are given a card to enter all parks. For Disneyland you will be given a paper ticket on your first day and will use that paper ticket on each visit. DO NOT LOSE THIS TICKET. You will not get it back. We have one person in our group hold all the tickets so there is no looking in multiple wallets and pockets.

We purchased our tickets on www.getawaytoday.com for $259 per adult (every member traveling was over the age of 10). That made it approximately $43 a day.

Break down the gate prices and you will see how great of a deal this is:

Disneyland - $206
Universal Studios - $74
Seaworld - $69.99
San Diego Zoo or Safari Park - $40

That is $389.99! That is saving over $130 per ticket. Even when I was looking for discounts I was only saving about $50 overall.

If you buy the City Pass at one of the included you will pay $276 at the gate. Still a great savings if you make the last minute decision or unsure about purchasing tickets online. I have good luck with getawaytoday.com I was comfortable with it. Plus the $17 savings per person buying online paid for us to purchase World of Color picnics.

We like to get the most bang for our buck so we are always on the look out for ways to save and play. This was one way we were able to do so.

Tiki Room

1, 2, 3 Wake up Jose!

Let Jose, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz take you on a tahitian journey using audio animatronics. This is a show everyone will enjoy!

I love the Tiki Room and often feel its an attraction under appreciated by many visitors looking for thrills. Its vibrant, entertaining, and you can't help but sing along. The whole room comes to life with singing birds, flowers,

One of my favorite parts is the pre-show in the outside waiting area. About 5 minutes prior to showtime the garden comes alive with the introduction of the gods residing.

Of course who can resist a Dole Whip Float. It is unique and special and only found at Disneyland.

I like to go in the evening. One its a welcome rest for tired feet, allows us an evening snack, and the when the garden comes alive it is spectacular.

Did you know the Enchanted Tiki Room was originally intended to be a dinner show?

What is your favorite part of the Tiki Room?

Mr Toads Wild Ride

Mr Toad's Wild Ride is my all-time favorite ride in the Disneyland park. A trip to Disneyland is not complete without taking a spin on this wild ride. What has always made this a favorite since I was little was it seemed so wild and was the highlight when I wasn't able to ride some of the larger rides. It was also a ride everyone in the family could ride together and equally shared enthusiasm with. Even more fun is the car outside you can take a picture with.

There are a total of 8 characters names on 8 different cars - Mr. Toad, Toady, Ratty, Moley, MacBadger, Cyril, Winky or Weasel. Which car is your favorite?

World of Color Picnic

During our latest trip we decided to purchase the World of Color picnics. These were prepaid so that was a little less money we needed to have available for food.

The pick is at the Sonoma Terrace located at Golden Vine Winery. There are signs to point you in the right direction. We picked up our food early so we could sit and eat without being rushed. At the pick up location you are provided with seating so there is no need to find a place to eat. You can pick up your picnic any time from 11:30am up to 1 hour before your selected show time. It is a great option for lunch, evening meal, or snack.

When picking up your picnics you must print off the confirmation to present along with your photo ID. At the pick up counter you will choose your drink. For every 4 meals you purchase you will receive a World of Color tote bag. We purchased 5 meals so we took home 2 totes. Nice totes too I might add.

The picnics are a decent portion. Bigger than I had expected actually. The antipasto meal is the smallest of the adults meals but very tasty. I would highly recommend having a glass of wine with the antipasto meal. At the pick up counter they have available wine pairings that match your picnic. The childs meals are really nice portions and very tasty. I decided that for myself I wanted the junior all american child's meal and it was plenty for me.

Below are your choices for meals:

All American

    • Cold honey-stung fried chicken
    • Green and red cabbage cole slaw with apple cider dressing
    • Old fashioned potato salad with sweet onions and dill relish
    • Apple pie
    • Choice of bottled Coca-Cola® product or Dasani® water

    Mediterranean Vegetarian

    • Marinated grilled vegetables in a whole wheat wrap with roasted garlic hummus
    • Raw zucchini and squash spaghettini with first-press lemon-infused olive oil
    • Vegetable couscous with toasted coriander vinaigrette
    • Lemon layer cake
    • Choice of bottled Coca-Cola® product or Dasani® water

    European Antipasto

    • Cured meats, regional cheese, pepperoncini, artichoke heart and sun-dried tomatoes
    • Carr's® water crackers
    • Chocolate-dipped tiramisu
    • Choice of bottled Coca-Cola® product or Dasani® water

    Taste of Asia

    •  Chilled miso-glazed salmon, Asian greens, soy-rice wine dressing
    • Soba noodle salad and julienne vegetables with sesame dressing
    • Gingered cucumber and radish slaw
    • Mandarin orange cake
    • Choice of bottled Coca-Cola® product or Dasani® water

    Junior All-American Box

    • Souvenir World of Color light-up bracelet
    • Chicken leg
    • Goldfish crackers
    • Apple wedges
    • World of Color confetti vanilla cupcake
    • Choice of small low-fat milk, 100% Minute Maid® juice box or small Dasani® water
    ( Ours came with a chicken breast and also included string cheese which is pictured but not listed on the website)

    Lunchbox Classic

    • Souvenir World of Color light-up bracelet
    • Peanut butter and Smucker's® jelly sandwich
    • Apple wedges
    • World of Color confetti vanilla cupcake
    • Choice of small low-fat milk, 100% Minute Maid® juice box or small Dasani® water

    Our family chose the asian, all american, antipasto (to share as a snack), and the junior all american. These were very good. Be sure to pay close attention to the time you are asked to line up for your World of Color showing. They fill up very fast. You get a preferred showing area but be prepared to stand.

    We sat in the handicap section because my husband needed a wheelchair that day. They had benches available for those who needed them but were not intended those who were not disabled. Sadly I could have used a seat since I am technically disabled but you had a few who insisted their children sit on the bench with them even when cast members asked that all non-disabled persons not sit on the benches. Normally would not be an issue but the benches were very limited. Needless to say I had to stand while able body persons sat (some even had conversations about them being able bodied).

    I very much enjoyed the show and the meal. This is something we will certainly do again.

    Twitterpated

    A couple weeks ago we got that brown envelope we wait patiently for every month. A new movie from the Disney Movie Club. And with spring in the air, you just hope you will get twitterpated too.

    Flower: Well! What's the matter with them?
    Thumper: Why are they acting that way?
    Friend Owl: Why, don't you know? They're twitterpated.
    Flower, Bambi, Thumper: Twitterpated?
    Friend Owl: Yes. Nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. For example: You're walking along, minding your own business. You're looking neither to the left, nor to the right, when all of a sudden you run smack into a pretty face. Woo-woo! You begin to get weak in the knees. Your head's in a whirl. And then you feel light as a feather, and before you know it, you're walking on air. And then you know what? You're knocked for a loop, and you completely lose your head!
    Thumper: Gosh, that's awful.
    Flower: Gee whiz.
    Bambi: Terrible!
    Friend Owl: And that ain't all. It could happen to anyone, so you'd better be careful.
    Friend Owl: It could happen to you...
    Friend Owl: ... or you, or even...
    Friend Owl: Yes, it could even happen to you!
    Thumper: Well, it's not gonna happen to me.
    Bambi: Me neither.
    Flower: Me neither.

    Take a piece of Disney home

    Souvenir shopping is so much fun. The Disneyland resort has some amazing items to purchase. Shopping is best during the early part of the day and during parades or fireworks. This is when the shops are least busy. The last couple hours of the day are hectic and you are fighting the crowds.

    Now I hate carrying around my purchases so naturally I think shop at the end. Not to worry. If you are staying at a resort hotel you can have these sent over to your hotel. That really makes shopping easy.

    Even if you are not staying at a resort hotel you can utilize a great service offered at the Disneyland resort. The Disneyland resort offers a Package Check service. Check your purchases in so you don't have to carry these around and pick them up when you are ready to leave.

    You can check your items in at:

    • Engine Ear Toys in Disney California Adventure Park
    • Newsstand at Disneyland Park
    • The Star Trader at Disneyland Park
    • Pioneer Mercantile at Disneyland Park
    How we choose to shop for souvenirs can be different from others. The first day we usually choose a hat. This way we can enjoy our special hat and wear during pictures if we choose.

    We window shop the rest of the time looking for exactly what we want to take home instead of impulse buying. On our trips we tend to have a budget for souvenirs so impulse buying is not encouraged. The last day at the resort is when we make our purchases. We have seen it all and know what it is we want. I don't know how many times my son sees a sweatshirt and has to have it. We politely remind him to wait and see what else is out there. He almost always finds something better by the last day. One time his first choice is what he ended up with from the World of Disney but by the last day it had gone on sale so he had a little extra to spend.

    If we come across that must have that just cannot wait until our last day we will use the package check service.

    Packing Tips

    When traveling I like to make a packing list. Sometimes these can be annoying and time consuming I know but they are very helpful when getting everything ready and making any last minute trips before you leave. I for one am not a big fan of having to run to the store for simple things such as socks, sunglasses, or even my favorite shampoo because I forgot.

    This is how I start my packing list:

        * Pants x___ days
        * Shorts x___ days
        * Shirts x___ days
        * Socks x__ days
        * Underwear x__ days
        * Light jacket
        * Heavy jacket
        * Tennis shoes
        * Sandals
        * Swim shoes or flip flops
        * Swimwear

    Bathroom:

        * Shampoo
        * Conditioner
        * Deodorant
        * Hairspray
        * Toothpaste
        * Mouthwash
        * Body wash
        * Perfume or cologne
        * Razor
        * Hair Dryer
        * Curling iron
        * Feminine products
        * Makeup case
        * Toilet paper (I always travel with a roll when driving. You never know when you will need this)
        * Facial tissue
        * Hair items such as heandbands, ponytail holders, bobby pins

    General Items:

        * Backpack to carry essentials
        *  Zip lock bags - we use these for our cell phones and camera when riding water rides. We also use these to take leftovers with us after meals.
        * Sunscreen
        * Hats
        * Sunglasses
        * Comfortable walking shoes
        * Backpack to carry essentials
        * Toys for younger children
        * Family's and friends' mailing addresses
        * Postage stamps for postcards and letters
        * Digital camera
        * Battery charger and extra memory card for digital camera
        * Video camera
        * Prescription medications ( in their original prescription bottle especially when traveling by air)
        * Over the counter medications (tylenol, benadryl, tums, pepto bismal)
        * Glasses
        * Cell phone charger (including car charger)
        * Umbrella (just in case you encounter rain. These are available for purchase at the parks in the event rain occurs but it is easier to start off with one and saves money)
        * Small first aid kit (I found one at Walmart where travel size items are found for $1. Just need something simple that includes bandaids and alcohol wipes. There are first aid locations in Disneyland and Disneys California Adventure)
        * Hand sanitizer (You will have your hands on many rails that others are touching. You will want to use hand sanitizer at least a few times a day)
        * Baby wipes or wet wipes (for all ages not just children. Helpful with those little accidents)
        * Print out of all reservations and confirmation numbers
        * Phone numbers and addresses of hotels and restaurants
        * Plastic bag for dirty clothes

    Prior to leaving call your credit card company and bank to let them know of your travel plans. Unusual activity will flag your account and can result in your cards being put on a security hold.

    When traveling my air you need to make sure you have all IDs and birth certificates available for checking. Also be sure to have cash on hand to tip shuttle/cab drivers and curbside baggage handlers.

    If you are like the other one million people with black luggage use something to mark your bag to stand out. The last few times I have been to the airport traveling myself or picking someone up, there was a ton of black bags. Add colorful tags, colored duct tape to mark the sides, add appliques or other fun patches. Something that personalizes and make these stand out. If you are shopping for new luggage I highly recommend you choose another color. It is easy to end up with the wrong bags.

    Pack an extra bag to bring home those souvenirs. This is one I forgot the first couple times and scrambled to stuff them in the bags. I even went as far as purchasing another bag from the hotel to carry home our special items. We learned quick to bring that extra bag and account for it when traveling by air so we were not over our bag limit.

    This is just a basic list for packing and your needs may be different. Create a simple list on your computer and print out one for each family member.

    Disney Dream Portrait Series by Annie Leibovitz’s

    Have you seen these amazing shots?

    Where Magic Speaks, Even When You’re Not The Fairest Of Them All

    Breathtaking is the only thing that comes to mind. I love these! Until this past week I did not know about these and the ones done previously. Where have I been!?

    Here are some of my favorite images.

    Where Wonderland Is Your Destiny

    Where Imagination Saves The Day

    Where The Magic Begins

    Where You Never Have To Grow Up

    Where Every Cinderella Story Comes True

    These are part of a Disney campaign and at this point I am not certain these can be purchased as wall art. If they can be, I will find out and look to make some purchases myself. I would love to have a couple of these adorn the walls of my home.
